Required for videos are Directx 9.c and above, quicktime, adobe flash and shockwave for your browser, and windows media player 11
Use these instructions at your own risk (for PC Users) depending on your ability.
Go to Quicktime The default download is 7.6.2 for windows xp or vista. If you want to be able to purchase songs and music online select the other choice that includes itunes.
Deselect the 2 check boxes and then click on free download now. Download and install noting where the file goes, then double clicking on it. Follow the prompts.
Next, go to DirectX Upgrade The page in the purple text has the directx upgrade. click on download the latest update of directx. download the file then go to the directory were you saved it (Going to start button then clicking on My Computer, then C drive, then the directory where it was saved.) Next double click on the file. follow the prompts to install. If you have all of them downloading to desktop it's that much easier. Just Double Click on the file.
Be sure to give permissions in your firewall when you install if prompted.
Next go to Windows Media Player In the headings select downloads and trials - in that menu select windows media downloads. In the setup leave the select download windows windows media player, and under select version select "player 11 (for windows xp)" then scroll down and click on download now.
Save it noting where it goes then double click on the file and follow prompts as before.
Next, go to download Java here Java download
Java creates the runtime environment for all the programs you are installing. Install same as above, Download, note where the file goes, double click on the file. Be sure to uncheck install yahoo toolbar in the install - just excess clutter.
Next go to
www.mozilla .comThis is a new version just released which has a media player built in.
(If you just want to keep using Internet Explorer skip this step.) Download, paying attention to which Directory as above, then go to the directory where the file is and doubleclick on the file, and follow prompts. As you install you can have it Import ALL YOUR BOOKMARKS FROM INTERNET EXPLORER in the Options as you install so you don't have any problem switching from Internet Explorer which is very restrictive in displaying pages and videos.
Now, go to www.adobe.com and download and install the latest flash player using the same method as above.. This is one of the video codecs used by browsers to run videos along with shockwave.
Now go to Adobe shockwave and install the latest shockwave player. This installs in the browser as it's open. If a bar appears across the top of your browser saying it blocked the installer from running, click allow - if you don't it WON'T Install.
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE NOW UP TO DATE AND CAN RUN ANY VIDEO APPLICATION. - go wild on youtube!!!!!
At this point if the videos don't run its being blocked by your browser or your aftermarket firewall. Go to tools and then options, make sure java is enabled and adblocking is off if so equipped and make sure the firewall is allowing internet access. If it still doesn't work then its probably a fake viewer like the ones demanding a download of MC viewer codec that tries to get you to run an .exe file to install and run a virus.
Some sites such as www.cbs.com and www.fox.com can have an additional media player to install BUT MAKE SURE IT'S FROM A TRUSTED SOURCE!
I hope you found this easy for it's not very hard to do. Just time consuming. I download all at once then install all at once. This updating should be done every 6 mos maximum interval or less depending on declared Vunerabilities.
Makes sure you have automatic updates turned on so as to have the latest internet explorer. If not, do it manually.
Hope you took the time to do the Updates if you haven't already, with the amount of media exploits in the last year it's really recommended. And for the non-experienced users, This should have solved your media problems. This was for the majority of users running XP. and Vista 32 bit.
