Sand with 350 grit to remove heavy oxidation - corrosion.
Then sand with 600 or higher grit to remove scratches.
(Not always necessary - a LOT polishes out )
Go and buy a green bar of metal polish off e-bay (about $15)
Using a buffing pad from sears on a drill or - my preference - an air powered die grinder.
Finish off the project with Muther's chrome - METAL wax.
IT WILL BE BETTER THAN NEW.
Works on ANY aluminum product. Forks, Suspension, Frame etc.
